Getting Ready For The Kinetic Half Can Not Be Taken Lightly

By Lena Stephenson

More people are becoming aware on how important it is to remain healthy. Walking down the side streets anytime of the day and one is sure to walk past a few joggers within a few minutes of each other. Although many are enjoying the fresh air others are training for the Kinetic Half Triathlon.

It all started out as a dream of one athlete. Entering a Biathlon he started to wonder if making the distances of the running and swimming longer would be more of a challenge. A course was designed where there would be a track one would have to run barefoot and another where shoes would be needed. He then contacted a chairman of the San Diego Track Club Calendar and asked if this event could be put onto the calendar.

The water will be about fifteen degrees Celsius so many will need wetsuits for that leg. The cycling part will take place along the lake as well as into rural areas with spectacular views of hills. All of it will be done on paving. It is said that the bike course is very difficult but will have three water hand- offs at the twenty, thirty five and forty five mile marks.

The event consisted of just over nine kilometres of running broken up as well as eight kilometres of cycling and then to end off a five hundred yard of swimming also broken up into parts. Three kilometres of the running would be done on sand and grass. Those that participated had to have their own bicycles and only the first five would receive a prize.

The next is Achilles Tendinitis and can happen if one increases the distance each day without giving the body time to adjust. The pain will be at the back of one's heel and will become more painful when running. Stiffness is also a sign and together with swelling and hearing a popping sound means that the Achilles tendon has been ruptured. A doctor will need to be seen straight away.

There is an option of walking the twenty four kilometres of hiking trails or biking and even horseback riding. This area sits on an old gold mining site and the history is available to anyone who is interested. There are gold panning programs available and seem to be a very popular activity to pass the time. There are also guided tours of the Goodwin Gold Mine.

Today this event is held at Lake Anna State Park in Spotsylvania County in Virginia. It is a part of Northern Virginia and is part of the Washington Arlington and Alexandria metropolitan Area. A census was taken in twenty ten and there were about one hundred and twenty three thousand people residing there.

This county is governed by a Board of Supervisors and they set out the policies and approve land rezoning as well as handle all funds. They have many schools and colleges as well as universities ensuring a good educational system for all. Their emergency services have volunteers to help and the fire and rescue services run from just before five in the morning to six in the evening.
