How Online CPR Classes Allows You Save Lives

By Leslie Ball

Circulatory arrest may occur in homes, workplaces, or any other locations and it strikes without warning. When it happens, it would be good that you be available to offer resuscitation. However, this may only happen if you have trained in CPR. Taking online CPR classes gives you a crucial skill of managing a pulmonary arrest in a patient until he or she is taken to a hospital or the medical team is called to come at the scene to help.

As many lives continue to be lost, one thing that is witnessed is that not many people have taken this crucial course. Cardiac arrest could strike anytime and anywhere. It may happen in workplace where an employee collapses or it may occur at home where a family member is faced with this condition. It appears saddening when there is no even a single person to help such people experiencing cardiac arrests.

Usually, there is very little chance for one to survive after a pulmonary arrest if resuscitation is not provided. It takes about 5 minutes or less for one to die of a pulmonary arrest. While medics respond in a short time when they are called to handle emergencies involving cardiac arrests, that time is not sufficient to allow a person to survive.

Resuscitation is a procedure that saves lives and increases the probably of one surviving by about two to three times. Statistics have hinted that many of the cases involving cardiac arrests occur in homes. Pulmonary arrests may occur in areas where there is no immediate availability of professional teams to help the patients.

Close to 4 out of 5 incidents of cardiac arrest occur in homes. You could be saving your parent, child, spouse, or another person at home. This shows the significance of having this kind of training. Resuscitation has been there since 1740s, and despite that duration, to date, only few people have taken it. This is one reason behind the many deaths being witnessed.

It is estimated that about 8 percent of people attacked by circulatory arrest are the ones to survive and the remaining 92 percent die before they reach hospitals. This is a big number of patients dying from such a condition, which may at times, be managed with use of chest compressions, or the rescue breathes. One reason why people die in such large numbers from cardiac arrest is that first aid with use of resuscitation procedures is not provided.

Considering the increased cases of heart problems, it is likely that in your lifetime, you will encounter a pulmonary arrest incident. If you cannot provide the resuscitation, then you will have to watch that person die. This is something that is very saddening and depressing.

People think that since they have not faced a situation that requires CPR procedure to be performed, they do not need to take the course. This is one misconception that puts those affected by cardiac arrest in danger. It is very difficult dealing with a situation of cardiac arrest when you have no resuscitation skill because you cannot offer any emergency life saving procedure.
