Social Thinking Therapists In Houston, TX

By Lelia Hall

All people and children above a certain age use societal thinking every day. It is the act of considering how they interact with other individuals. There are social thinking therapists in Houston, TX available to aid children who do not develop those skills on their own.

As one individual interacts with another, their emotions and intentions are communicated to us in unspoken ways. Usually communication senses are developed from birth and throughout a lifetime. Not all people are fortunate enough to develop these senses in a natural way. There is no correlation between the level of intelligence and the ability to communicate successfully.

Many can score high on IQ tests and have limited ability when it comes to learning the social nuances. Most commonly those with autism, ADHD and Aspergers syndrome experience this lack. Therapists work to develop their communicative skills and the processing of social impressions in children and adults.

Research has been done and the successful use of ILAUGH therapy to develop societal thinking in those who lack it has worked. The neurotypical children who develop it naturally were studied to determine how it might be implemented in those with normal and above normal IQ, but fail to develop it. This methodology was created.

From the first time an infant responds to his mothers touch he is building skills needed for language and verbal interaction. The toddler is already beginning to develop societal awareness. The more speaking and listening to others speak, the more he develops awareness of how others feel.

The neurotypical child of four years shows understanding about what he perceives others as thinking. By the time he reaches six, he understands that people can do bad things such as cheating or stealing. He will also learn it is possible to manipulate another child.

Without coming to this realization, a child is unable to solve problems, understand and interpret speaking and reading comprehension. That lack of knowledge will make it impossible to succeed academically. The autistic child or one with some kind of learning disorder will be delayed in acquiring that comprehension.

He requires more direct teaching methods. It is not easy for him to become aware that everyone thinks about the thoughts and feelings of others. He must learn to recognize that fact.

Even the skill of making eye contact as communication takes place requires special teaching methods for this child. Therapists study how the neurotypical child acquires this and other sociable skills. They then develop methods of helping the child with autism who is high-functioning or has Aspergers syndrome.

The ILAUGH Model of thinking has been developed as a therapeutic tool. It is used by parents as well as therapists. All who are concerned put the emphasis on the childs strongest abilities and reinforce and expand on them.

The goal is to show this child that communication skills and academics are related. Learning one facilitates the learning of the other. The student needing these skills can talk about how he feels. He needs to also learn to recognize and talk about the feelings of other.
