What You Should Do As A Clothing Photographer

By Kathrine Franks

When you browse clothing collections you will see models. If can find these ads in magazines and in web sites online. A models job is to make the product look good. To draw attention to the product.

One niche in photography is apparel. As a clothing photographer it is your duty to find a way to bring out the best in the item. Finding a way to make the garment look good is not as simple as it sounds.

Clothes do not have a life. They are flat items that just lie there. You need to learn the lighting techniques that can make it look good and catch attention. The right balance of dark and light will make the piece pop on camera. It will give it definition.

Clothing companies use steamers so that the apparel looks flawless in stores and on the web site. If you want to sell your own items you need to iron it before you take the pictures. A quick run through with an iron will do wonders in making the piece look better.

Models are useful because they showcase how it should look on a body. However, they can distract from the garment. A customer may spend more time looking at the model than the actual piece. Plus you would have to spend money to hire a model.

Mannequins and dress forms will also give the same effect. They will show how the dress looks as worn by a person. Both of these items can be bought for a reasonable price. If you are an online seller, it is a good investment to buy one since you will be taking plenty of pictures of the things you will be selling.

When you take photos, ideally the whole item should be seen. All the details need to be visible. So placing them on a table or folded would not show them in the right light. It would be more suitable on a garment rack or dress form. Customers will demand to see every part and detail so each piece will need multiple pictures.

Clothing photography is used by businesses. They photograph their stock. Web sites and other online sellers also rely on this type of photography. Images of their stock fill their web sites and that is how their customers will pick and choose what they want. Online shopping is very popular and a lot of people prefer this to going to the store physically. However customers also want to be able to have an accurate idea of the item and the photos need to be of high quality.

Learning photography tricks will help you be able to show the best image of whatever it is you would like to sell. Always press or steam before you take the shots. Learn the balance of light and dark and other aspects of making a digital picture look good but still give an accurate portrayal of the clothes.
