Marathon Races Apparel: A Brief Guide

By Sharon Weeks

Marathons have an incredible history. They are named after a person who ran from a town sharing the same name to Athens to deliver news of victory but died on arrival. Today, many people run the distance of 26.2 miles in commemoration either for charity or to challenge oneself. Marathon races apparel is important as it provides comfort and fit.

People dress for various occasions all of which require a particular type of wear. When running long races such as a marathon, you must wear the appropriate clothing to avoid injury and also maintain the body well during and after the race. Appropriate wear can be found in many shops depending on what you are looking to purchase.

A proper pair of running shoes should be your biggest investment as a runner. A good pair of shoes makes running a lot easier than badly constructed shoes. Hence, go for something that fits into your frame. Additionally, never buy today and wear tomorrow. Wear them for training a few months before to test the comfort and fit before your big day.

The next item is proper running clothing. This is where it gets tricky because there is a variety of designs, fabrics, and styles to choose from. In addition, you must consider the type of weather you will be running in. When running, the body heats up plus there will be more heat as a result of the large groups of people participating.

Different clothes are required when the weather is warm or cold. When it is warm, a running T-shirt and shorts are advised. A hotter weather calls for a running vest and for better circulation, some pair of light shorts. The length of the shorts suitable for you is dependent entirely on you. However, those with trouble chafing can put on shorts with inbuilt lycra.

Inbuilt briefs in shorts help one keep cool during hot weather. Long-sleeve running wear is most appropriate when the weather is cool or cold. Also, remember to do lots of layerings to help insulate the body against cold and at the same time make it possible to remove some layers when you begin to heat up. Instead of layering up once, put on several thin layers to make it easy to remove.

Many people do not know what to do with hats. Wearing hats is alright as long as they are worn in accordance with the weather. Wear light hats during hot weather to enable the escape of heat. You may put on a heavy one when cold. Also, use gloves when windy and a scarf around the neck when cold.

In conclusion, marathon wear should be comfortable and well-fitting. It is important to train in the clothes to test how comfortable and fitting they are before the actual race. In addition, always check the weather forecast to know what to expect during the big day.
