For Best Eye Exam Sacramento Is The Way To Go

By Ruth Collins

the series of tests that test ability to discern objects and vision is referred to as eye examination. Ophthalmologists, optometrists, and orthoptists are some of the medical practitioners with specialty in eyes who are trained to do the tests. Complexity or simplicity of tests varies. Some need simple tools such as eye charts while others require complex high-powered lenses and vision equipment to be done. When one needs to have eye exam Sacramento needs to be the place to prioritize. Sacramento is home to many highly experienced and qualified professionals who can assist with such matters.

One should not wait until they notice symptoms of a disease before they decide to take the tests. As a matter of fact, it is recommendable that the tests be taken routinely as part of primary care. This is because most defects that affect eyes are asymptomatic and unless they are tested, it is hard to know that they exist. The amount of time taken to complete the examination varies. Simple cases take shorter periods while complex ones can last several hours.

The duration depends on the number of tests done and the health of eyes that of a patient. The tests can be used to detect a wide range of diseases as well as signs of tumors of other abnormalities in the brain. The examination starts with external assessment of an eye before delving deeper into internal structures. There are specific tests meant for testing different aspects of vision.

The assessment tests several aspects of the eye including visual fields, pupil function, intraocular pressure, extraocular muscle motility, visual acuity, and ophthalmoscopy through a dilated pupil among several others. The doctor may have to perform just some of the tests or all of them. The patient may choose which ones they need tested with the advice of a doctor. Tests cost differently and that may also determine which tests are performed.

How sharp vision is can be determined through visual acuity tests. Usually, the sight of someone is compared to the sight of an individual with an average vision. Charts are used in the process. The charts have differently-sized letters, which the patient is required to read. Distance of the charts from the patient is varied up to the farthest point.

Retinoscopy is another test usually meant for obtaining an approximation of eyeglass prescription. This test involves dimming lights in a room where the patient is and asking them to fixate on a large target in front of them. While still staring the target, the doctor shines light at the eyes of the patient and flips lenses in a machine in front of the eyes.

The type of lens that is suitable for a patient is indicated by the way the machine reflects light. The test has high accuracy levels in some cases. Retinoscopy produces conclusions upon which the design of eyeglasses is based.

Another test used to determine eyeglass prescription is refraction. In this test, the doctor places a phoropter before the eyes of patients to look through. The patient sees two sets of lenses and they have to say which one is clearer. When fine-tuned well, refraction tells the level of presbyopia, myopia, and hyperopia in the eyes.
